Redskins Announce QB Dwayne Haskins Won’t Play Vs Cowboys in Finale

The season is officially over for Washington Redskins rookie QB Dwayne Haskins.

The Redskins announced Monday that he will not play in the Week 17 finale against the Dallas Cowboys according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington.

Veteran Case Keenum will draw the start. Haskins suffered a high-ankle sprain against the New York Giants which will require several weeks of rest and rehab.

Reportedly, he lobbied to be able to play in the season finale but was overruled. Haskins was playing his best football of the season prior to exiting in Week 16, as he had completed 12-of-15 passes for 133 yards and a pair of scores against the Giants’ over-matched defense.

Haskins also performed admirably in Week 15 against the Eagles after weeks of less-than-encouraging efforts and ends his rookie season with 1,365 passing yards and a 7-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio in nine games.

For Haskins to improve on his rookie numbers and develop into the QB the Redskins hoped he could become when they drafted him No.15-overall after just one year as a start at Ohio State, they need to drastically improve the offensive line and find him some playmakers in the passing game other than fellow rookie Terry McLaurin.
