Redskins to Acquire QB Case Keenum from the Broncos

The Redskins will have a new QB on their roster for 2019, as the team is acquiring Broncos QB Case Keenum this according to Adam Schefter of ESPN on Thursday.

In exchange, the Broncos will get a sixth-round pick in the 2020 draft from the Redskins. Washington will also get a 2020 seventh-rounder from Denver.

The 31-year-old Keenum, who was currently slated to count $21 million against the Broncos’ salary cap for the 2019 season, has reworked his contract and will be on a one-year deal with the Redskins, sources told Schefter.

Keenum has a base salary of $18 million this season, but only $7 million was guaranteed in the way of offsets, which the Redskins and Broncos decided to split evenly, sources told Schefter.

The Broncos, who would’ve carried $10 million in “dead money” had they cut Keenum, will instead save $3 million by paying only $3.5 million as well as a $500,000 restructuring bonus.

The Broncos signed Keenum to a two-year, $36 million deal last March to be their starting quarterback. Denver then went 6-10 in 2018, which led to the dismissal of head coach Vance Joseph and the hiring of Vic Fangio to replace him.

Since the end of the season, the Broncos have put in place the framework of a trade to acquire veteran Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens, which “definitely shocked” and “disappointed” Keenum when he heard the news.

So a little light has been shed on the team 2019 constuct starting with the KEENUM deal.
People are still flipping for a ROSEN trade and picks.
I just don’t think the club has picks to waste on such a foolish move.
Yes, ROSEN is on a rookie contract.
There’s no proof that ROSEN’s the future behind center for the REDSKINS.
If he blows a tire, we’re faced with having to go back into the 2020 draft for a franchise QB anyway.
Another group of prognosticators say stay the course, and invest the #15 pick on DAN JONES or DREW LOCK, players I consider mediocre QB’s at best.
And the crazies are saying go for broke, and take KYLER MURRAY by moving up in the draft.
This merely wastes not only the first round pick on a QB CHARLIE CASSERLY has roundly ripped, but burns other essential ones as well.
Frankly, I say sign JOSH JOHNSON and go to war in 2019 with three experienced madiocre QB’s.
Save the franchise QB move for 2020 when some great QB’s will be available.
As a final thought, take RYAN FINLEY N.C. State in the fifth round as a developmental QB rather than JOHNSON.
Than get the franchise QB in 2020 either through FA or the draft.

Say KEENUM and done for 2019 at the QB position. What then?
Draft a developmental QB, or sign a mediocre experienced one like JOHNSON.
Next, build up the defense, the offensive line, and the overall strength.
To that end, we sign LANDON COLLINS SS…we what?? We actually did that?
This is scary. The organization is beginning to think like I am.
Then what? Oh, find a fourth RB.
Did that too? BYRON MARSHALL in, AD out. Money the issue no doubt.
CROWDER is gone via FA. Now we need a WR X 2.
Should we rely on the draft for both?
I’ve mocked two to the franchise at various times.
1 – D.K. METCALF, PARRIS CAMPBELL, or DARIUS SLAYTON. Any one is fine.
    2 – PENNY HART WR/PR 5’8″ 180 Georgia State.
That’s the same program that provided us ROBERT JONES.
The guy’s a great teams player who doubles at receiver.
Has 4.38 speed and moves like a cat. Reminds of BRIAN MITCHELL.
    Next TE.
Despite misgivings about REED, and DAVIS results vs money, they stay put.
    OL just lost NSEKHE.
Having GERON CHRISTIAN as the heir apparent gives me the willies.
I would take an OT late just in case.
TYTUS HOWARD Alamama A&M is my choice, but he probably goes too high.
TREY PIPKINS Sioux Falls U, or OLI UDOH Elon might work.
UDOH might even be available as a UDFA.
We do need to invest a second, or third round pick on C/G.
ERIK McCOY can start right away if still at #96.
On defense, OLB X 2 replace both PRESTON SMITH and PERNELL McPHEE.
    One @ # 15, and # 253.
Try for DT DAYLON MACK at #173 to replace STACY McGEE.
Keep ILB’s as they are for the present.
JUSTIN LAYNE CB, or JUAN THORNHILL @ #76 if either is still on the board.

Oops, PETERSON is back in @ 4 million X 2.

Free Agency grinds on. Time for a new mock.
    Got the SS we wanted.
Brought AD back. RB room is set.
Would love a FS TRE BOSTON signing.
    Trade back with PATRIOTS
    032* MONTEZ SWEAT olb

    096 NOAH FANT te

    173 DAYLON MACK dt
    206 PENNY HART wr/pr
