The Redskins have placed left tackle Trent Williams on injured reserve according to the team’s official website.
Williams has been hampered by a knee injury for most of the season and needs surgery. Putting him on IR now, with the Redskins are hopelessly out of the playoff picture, will give him a head start on the procedure and his rehab.
Still one of the most dominant pass protectors in the entire NFL when healthy, the 29-year-old Williams was only able to suit up for ten games this season and has not played a full 16-game season since 2013. He remains under contract through 2020.
