Roberts Says He May Have Gone Elsewhere If He Knew Redskins Would Get Jackson

Andre Roberts

Redskins wide receiver Andre Roberts acknowledged Tuesday that he might have decided on a different destination had he known DeSean Jackson would sign in Washington three weeks after he did, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington reports.

But Roberts quickly added that he’s come to terms with the situation and plans to make the best of it.

Prior to Jackson’s arrival, Roberts had expected to be the No. 2 wide receiver behind Pierre Garçon. As it turns out, Roberts will be the No. 3 wide out, perhaps with some punt and/or kickoff return duty mixed in.

“I think so, I think it would have played a role,” Roberts said on SiriusXM NFL Radio, asked might he have decided differently had Jackson already been on the roster. “But at end of the day, we all know how the NFL works. And decisions are made that are out of your control. So when [Jackson] signed there, I just had a different out look on it. I think I’ll still be able to help the team out a lot and be a playmaker for this team.”

Despite the reduction in role, Roberts said there is one thing he’s looking forward to: getting favorable matchups as a result of sharing the field with Garçon and Jackson.

“It definitely helps matchup-wise,” the former Cardinal added. “I had the opportunity to play with Larry [Fitzgerald] and most of the time, he takes those No. 1 corners out of there and leaves you with one-on-one matchups with No. 2 or No. 3 [defensive backs]. So playing with Pierre and playing with DeSean, I’ll definitely have some nice matchups, inside and outside.”
