Indianapolis tells Andrew Luck he’ll be taken #1 overall, Robert Griffin III to be available at #2

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed what the majority of people have believed to already be a reality (no matter what Jim Irsay may have said in between): The Indianapolis Colts will take Andrew Luck with the #1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, which will take place next Thursday, April 26th.

From Schefter (via Twitter):

No great surprise, it’s what most expected, but Colts have told Andrew Luck they will take him with the No. 1 overall pick, per NFL source.

This, of course, means that that Robert Griffin III will be available at the #2 overall selection, currently held by the Redskins. It’s essentially a done deal that the Redskins will select Griffin, given the price they paid to trade up and select a franchise quarterback, the time they’ve spent getting to Griffin and his family, and the fact that the coaching staff has even spent time in Waco, TX to teach Griffin about the Redskins offense.

It appears, then, that it’s just a matter of “when” and not “if” the Redskins take Robert Griffin III next Thursday.

UPDATE: is also confirming that the Redskins will take Robert Griffin III, with Luck now set to go #1 overall:

“The Washington Redskins will take Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 pick in the draft, according to league sources.”

S0, Jim Irsay finally decides to throw RG3 into the briar patch. Good for RG3. He has the best college career, the best agent, the best skills, the best personality, the best speed, the best arm, the best leadership qualities, the best record in every college statistical category, and now he ends up in the most dynamic city on a team that has an established general manager, an established coach and an owner who is decisive and not totally wacky!
