DeAngelo Hall named Pro Bowl MVP

It’s likely not the postseason game he’d like to be playing in – or the postseason award he’d like to be given – but it’s always great to be recognized as the Most Valuable Player in a game featuring some of the most elite players in the entire NFL.

Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall was named “Most Valuable Player” in the 2011 NFC-AFC Pro Bowl yesterday, after intercepting one pass, and forcing a fumble, which he also recovered and returned 34 yards for a touchdown. He finished the day with six tackles (3rd on the squad), two passes defended, an interception, and the aforementioned forced fumble plus recovery.

On the last play of the first quarter, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning attempted to connect on a deep pass to Broncos receiver (and ex-Redskin) Brandon Lloyd, but Hall was able to undercut Lloyd and intercept the ball in the endzone.

Just over four and half minutes later, Manning completed a short pass on a crossing pattern to Patriots receiver Wes Welker. Hall grabbed Welker and stripped the football from him before he fell to the ground, in a play very reminscent of his game-changing forced fumble on Cowboys running back Tashard Choice in the Redskins season opener (which he also returned for a touchdown). After Welker lost control of the football, Hall recovered it, and was escorted by a convoy of NFC defenders as he returned the turnover for a touchdown.

Hall was originally the only member of the Redskins that would get to play in the All Star game, but linebackers Brian Orakpo and London Fletcher were also able to join Hall in Hawaii; they were originally designated as alternates to the game, but were able to attend due to injuries and players at the same position playing in Super Bowl XLV, taking place next Sunday. Fletcher, Orakpo, and Hall actually lead the NFC squad in tackles. Fletcher also recorded a tackle for a loss and pass defended.
