Alex Smith: Still Has Something To Prove

While this writer has seen Haskins dropping dimes at the end of last season when there was no  pressure on, Smith has already risen out of the ashes like the mythical bird, Phoenix.  One of the best won-loss records in the history of the NFL., Smith is a proven winner and he helped turn arounds in previous stops both in San Francisco and in Kansas City.

Heck, Kansas City Chiefs super bowl champion quarterback Patrick Mahomes gives Smith a ton of credit in teaching him what was needed to succeed in this league.  Smith as a veteran knows what it takes to succeed in this league and apparently is a good instructor at least in from Mahomes’ perspective.

Smith was awful at the beginning of his career which these early failure might have been a godsend. In 2018 with WFT pre-injury, Smith look to have regressed back to that awful form.  Smith looked terrible in the pocket in 2018.   An overall number 1 draft pick, Smith was never given the accolades of a Terry Bradshaw or a Troy Aikman.

Yet by 2017, Smith developed into a down field threat, a game manager and an all pro.  Many NFL Insiders actually thought in the short term WFT had upgraded at the qb position over Kirk Cousins.

Then, Smith came to Washington and he never looked comfortable in the pocket.  Actually, from reviewing highlights from KCC to play with WFT, it looked like Smith had developed yips.   Then, Smith was injured.
