Redskins New Coach Rivera Adds Jack Del Rio to the Staff as New Defensive Coordinator

The Redskins got the coach they wanted in former Carolina Panthers head man Ron Rivera, and already Rivera has added a big name to the staff, as he’s brought in former Raiders and Vikings head coach Jack Del Rio as the club’s new defensive coordinator.

Del Rio has been on television the last two years after he was fired following a three-year run as the Raiders’ head coach.

He and Rivera have never coached together, and Rivers was reportedly eyeing Browns DC Steve Wilks first, but eventually moved to Del Rio.

Rivera and Del Rio are a pair of strong voices and leaders to help try and pull the Redskins out of the current mess they’ve been in for years.

It is unclear if the Skins will employ a man or zone scheme but they already have the makings of a strong defensive line-and the prospect of drafting Ohio State’s Chase Young with the No.2-overall pick this spring.

  1. RUSBAR YNOA says:

    Rebuilding the offensive line:
After welcoming TRENT WILLIAMS back from limbo,
trading BRANDON SCHERFF for a second and a fifth, and
    PAUL RICHARDSON for a fifth,
    letting DONALD PENN walk,
    re-signing ERECK FLOWERS to a three-year deal,
installing GERON CHRISTIAN Jr. at RG,
making WES MARTIN the swing interior lineman,
    releasing TONY BERGSTROM,
signing FA swing tackle DARYL WILLIAMS [Panthers],
the REDSKINS are prepared to either sign a left OT in the second round, or to trade back acquiring extra first and second round picks, and take a left OT in the first round.
So, option one is to draft:
OLB CHASE YOUNG at #2 in the first round,
and move RYAN KERRIGAN to DE, installing YOUNG at OLB.
then pick OT MEHKI BECTON in the second round.
Option two is to trade back with MIAMI, and get their fifth and 18th
taking OT ANDREW THOMAS Ga. and ILB KENNETH MURRAY Okla. in the first.
