Redskins WR Josh Doctson Goes Down with Shoulder Injury in Training Camp Practice

Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson went down with a shoulder injury during Wednesday’s practice that “sounds like an AC sprain and/or shoulder bruise according to Ian Rapoport of

This is good news after Doctson went down hard on the shoulder while battling for a ball with cornerback Josh Norman and immediately left the field to seek treatment inside the team facility.

AC sprains are considered day-to-day injuries. The Redskins will likely hold him out of practice for the rest of the week as a precaution but the 25-year-old does not appear to be in danger of missing any preseason action. Originally the No.22-overall pick in the 2016 draft out of TCU, Doctson missed most of his rookie season due to injuries.

He led the Redskins in receiving touchdowns with six during his sophomore campaign in 2017 but was wildly inconsistent, catching only 44.9% of the passes thrown his way. Doctson needs as much work as possible to get his timing with new QB Alex Smith down as the team is looking for him to take a major leap forward in 2018.

    Notes on a pre-season opener.

KEVIN HOGAN has zero chance of being on the regular season roster.

Redskins carry two QB’s just like last year.

“Fit ROB” looked worse than “FatROB” did last season. Put on some weight!

Despite GRUDEN’s proclivity for KELLEY, PERINE showed the potential to be on the team long-term……if he holds onto the ball.

BYRON MARSHALL will be a regular in 2018 as THOMPSON recovers from his broken leg.

KAPRI BIBBS to the practice squad.

Other than QUINN getting broken ribs [not his fault,on McCOY’s watch],the back-ups looked good including SIMS

SIMS earned a practice squad slot.

Frankly, by next season, I expect DOCTSON to be judged a flop and off the team.

SPRINKLE did nothing to hurt his chances.

With GARNER hurt, FLANAGAN becomes the next man up. One makes the pc.

I continue to feel GERON CHRISTIAN a poor choice in the third round.

KYLE KALIS was hurt, but will make the squad if the injury is not serious.

    TYLER CATALINA is next up.

ISAIAH WILLIAMS will not make this team.

    I’m ambivilant regarding T.J. CLEMMINGS.

TIMON PARRIS may make the pc as a hedge against the slow development of CHRISTIAN though not particularly impressive last night.

SETTLE was a man last night. What a pick!

HOOD is back with injury to McGEE [PUP IR].

    I dream of a 4-3 d-line of ALLEN/IOANIDDIS/SETTLE/PAYNE.

As much as I would like to see it, TAYLOR does not make this team short of another long-term injury on the d-line.

    DADI NICOLAS makes the pc.

    HAMILTON is a beast!

SPEIGHT does not make this team.

DANNY JOHNSON makes the final 53.

    ALEXANDER to the pc.

SMITHSON to the pc again, if he isn’t picked.

GUICE and GARNER to season-ending IR.

So there are already four season-ending injuries

    Six game IR

Serious injuries not requiring IR – 2-3 weeks

    QUINN undetermined at this point.

Nine season-ending or serious time-loss injuries, and we haven’t even finished training camp, and only one x-game..

What does GRUDEN do to these guys? They’ve got to toughen up. At this rate, we will lose 50 players to time-loss or IR by the end of the season.

I exclude SUNDBERG, WAY and HOPKINS though two of the three have had serious injury over the past several years.

  3. Ghost of Sammy Baugh says:

QUINN reported throwing up could be serious – spleen…..liver even, as well as broken ribs.

No report on condition is sinister at this point.

  4. Ghost of Sammy Baugh says:

So QUINN survived that nasty hit under his shoulder, but ROBERT DAVIS now goes on season-ending IP with a broken leg and LCL injury.

So nine players are out for the season, or have extensive time-loss injuries.

So what should we expect going forward?

Another day, another practice, another major injury?

  5. Ghost of Sammy Baugh says:

    Obviously, running back now:

    KELLEY, and PERINE pounders

    THOMPSON and MARSHALL third downs

BIBBS to the pc…..if he qualifies.

    WR just got clearer:

DOCTSON, RICHARDSON, CROWDER, HARRIS, QUINN, SIMS if he can play Special Teams, or QUICK with SIMS to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

One more major DL injury and PHIL TAYLOR makes the squad.

I wasn’t impressed with LANIER’s play against NE.
