Redskins Not Worried About the Rumors Surrounding Draft Pick Derrius Guice

Redskins senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams shot down any worries about second-round running back Derrius Guice according to an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Williams was particularly adamant about the whispers around the league of off-field concerns that may have damaged Guice’s draft stock. “For this kid, who doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, hasn’t been arrested, no failed drug tests,” Williams said. “He’s a happy-go-lucky kid.”

Williams also said he grew up in the same area as Guice, so he understands what it took for him to get where he is today. Rumors of immaturity plagued the 20-year-old Guice throughout the process and seemed to contribute to his slide out of the first round all the way to the Redskins at No. 59. If those concerns prove to be unfounded as Williams claims, the Redskins just may have gotten the biggest steal in the entire draft.
