Redskins to Bring Back DL Phil Taylor Sr. on a One-Year Deal

The Redskins intend to re-sign defensive lineman Phil Taylor Sr. to a one-year deal, Liz Clarke of the Washington Post reports.

Taylor, who turns 30 on Saturday, had been penciled in as the Redskins’ starting nose tackle heading into the 2017 season, following an impressive showing during training camp. But he tore his left quadriceps during a preseason game against Cincinnati and was placed on injured reserve following surgery.

A first-round pick in the 2011 NFL draft, Taylor last played a regular-season game in November 2014 before suffering knee injuries. He contemplated retirement in December 2016, but recommitted himself once he learned of the Redskins’ interest.

NT PHIL TAYLOR is a good first step on the d-line

Looks like HANKINS isn’t getting what he wants.

I assume our original offer still stands, and that might end up being the best one for the DT.

It looks more and more to me like HANKINS’ agent has shopped the REDSKINS’ offer, and there are none better, so it might come back to us with a taker pretty soon.

Getting HANKINS and having TAYLOR could mitigate the need for a #13 d-line pick.

That would leave S, CB, OT, OG, C, RB in play.

In that scenario, it looks more and more like best available which is probably a defensive player, and a RB in the second.

That would make coach smile no doubt.

Still no HANKINS sighting with three weeks to draft Day One.

I’ll be a believer he’s signed until the 21st of the month, or he goes elsewhere.

Meanwhile, RB and d-backs have taken over the convo on the REDSKIN sites RIGGO’s RAG, HOGS HAVEN, and ever REAL REDSKINS.

With no o-lineman worthy of a #13 pick and the likelihood of a trade back uncertain, those are the two primary areas to look at in Round’s One, Two, and Four.

Needs as I see them this year.

Starting LG/C 2nd round. BILLY PRICE if he falls to #44.

    Backup OT probable UFA

Developmental TE. DAVID WELLS in the 7th.

    Starting RB 4th round.

    Developmental QB 5th round

Backend WR. DAURICE FOUNTAIN in the 6th.

starting/rotational DT/NT maybe not this year with HANKINS signed.

developmental DE ZACH SIELER in the 7th.

    developmental ILB. UFA this year

starting slot CB 1st round or 5th.

developmental S 1st round if DENZEL WARD is gone when we pick @ 13.

MINKAH FITZPATRICK or DERWIN JAMES could fill either CB or S.
