Redskins Re-Sign LB Zach Brown to Three-Year Deal

The Redskins have re-signed inside linebacker Zach Brown to a three-year, $24 million contract according to Ian Rapoport of

Brown did not get the “top-three inside linebacker money” he was reportedly seeking but did score some security and a significant raise over the $2.3 million in salary he earned in 2017.

Brown was originally a second-round draft pick out of North Carolina for the Tennessee Titans in 2012. After four mostly solid years in Tennessee, Browns has put up two productive years in Buffalo and Washington respectively. He was making plays all over the field for the Redskins in 2017 before missing the final three games of the season with a shin injury. The 28-year-old can play on all three downs and generates a decent number of sacks and turnovers for his position.

  1. Let it be known says:

Looks like BROWN is in at ILB.

JOHN SULLIVAN gets my vote for C/G back-up, a couple million maybe for two years.

Still need to sign OLB GALLETT, but we’ve got about 12-14 million to do it according to the pundits.

    3rd QB – draft

    1st RB – draft

    4th OT – draft

    7th DE/DT – draft

    OLB – GALLETT and/or draft.

This BROWN deal takes some pressure off our round 1 pick.

If GALLETT is signed, it really frees us up to take the best available @ 13.

  2. Forget Capt. KIRK and respect Capt. SMITH says:

Get a back-up center. JOHN SULLIVAN is my pick if not already gone.

Looks like we’re gonna’ move on from Mr. Achilles Heel. Great player, but our need is rotational not starter. He wants starter money. Not gonna’ happen. DARTH VADER moves on.

Bringing in OLB McPHEE today, and I think we sign him. End of drama. GALLETT goes elsewhere.

I’m hoping HANKINS gets done as well for starter money. Voidable 5 years, 25 million salary, 5 million per, 8 million signing bonus, one million first year. Six million against the 2018 cap. Cut McCLAIN [3.2 cap hit] not HOOD [0 cap hit].

Short-term CB while CRAVENS learns the slot CB position, IF he stays. This is not a good situation.

Then S DERWIN JAMES Florida State in the draft #13.

RB RONALD JONES II Southern California, second, starter.

QB KYLE LAULETTA University of Richmond fourth, developmental.

OT JOE NOTEBOOM TCU fifth. Convert to LG behind TY NSEKHE.

WR DAURICE FOUNTAIN Northern Iowa, sixth.

    OLB LEON JACOBS Wiscinsin, seventh.

TE DAVID WELLS San Diego State, seventh.

  3. Richbrave says:

CB ORLANDO SCANDRICK is in the house. Not really someone I wanted.

Another COWBOYS bust on a two-year for a potential $10 million.

Well, they got their experienced transition CB, but 10 million for SCANDRICK? Hopefully, only a couple mill or so is guaranteed.

Wouldn’t you rather have Jno. HANKINS on a four-year and a fifth voidable with that 10 million and 20 million more? I would.

Low-ball the good player. Too much to the afterthought.

I guess DARTH is really intent on trading CRAVENS for a draft pick, and then he’ll move on that pick for d-line help…..

So now, two back-ups on the o-line; FA center, draft OT [4].

Starting RB in the draft [2].

    Developmental QB [5].

Draft for WR [6], and TE [7].

    Draft OLB [7].

    Draft S [1].

And a bonus pick for CRAVENS.

  4. Wait out HANKINS says:

HANKINS and McPHEE have left the building.

McPHEE was probably looking for starter minutes not rotation, and injury backup.

HANKINS will marinate a bit then simmer on the back-burner. He may be a late free agency one year make-good contract like BROWN last year. We’ve cleared the financials with TERRELL McCLAIN so it won’t hurt too bad to see T-Mac go, and ZIGGY HOOD stay. Here’s hoping.

I can’t see GALLETT staying unless he just has no other prospects in FA.

We need one of a rotational back-up OLB or a starting NT/DT.

And don’t forget, PHIL TAYLOR Sr. is still an option as a last resort at NT.

If it goes this way, and we resign TAYLOR at the last moment before the draft, then we can get an OLB in the fourth round, and free our first two picks for a RB, OG, or S depending on who is still on the board when we pick.

DERRIUS GUICE, BILLY PRICE, and DERWIN JAMES are names I would love to hear on the first two days of the draft.

  5. Wait out HANKINS says:

    Needs as of now:

    Move CRAVENS for a pick.

    developmental QB.

    starting RB.

    fourth TE.

    starting LG.

    back-up interior o-lineman.

    starting NT/DT.

    third OLB.

    upgrade @ CB.

    upgrade @ S.

I’m thinking they take best available player at 13, best available at a position of need in the second round.
