Redskins left offensive tackle Trent Williams underwent offseason surgery to repair a torn ligament in his ankle according to Chris Russell of ESPN Radio.
Williams was experiencing discomfort during the early part of voluntary workouts and decided to get it “cleaned out” by Dr. Robert Anderson.
He will be sidelined until training camp but the team is optimistic he will be at full speed to start the regular season. That speed and mobility should be improved in 2015 as Williams is down 20 pounds.
He is an elite left tackle when healthy and the Redskins have approached the former No.4-overall draft pick about a contract extension.
