Redskins Re-Sign OLB Rob Jackson

San Diego Chargers v Washington Redskins

The Redskins have re-signed outside linebacker Rob Jackson, Matt Brooks of the Washington Post reports.

The seventh-year pro has spent all of his career with the Redskins, playing primarily as Brian Orakpo’s backup.

Jackson last season recorded 19 tackles, two sacks and an interception.

He had hoped to go somewhere that afford him the opportunity compete for a starting job, and drew a degree of interest from the Oakland Raiders and visited their facility earlier this month.

But instead he will return to Washington, which remained in need of depth at outside linebacker.

Good to see ROB back, and to strike one pressing need from this year’s draft list.

  2. Ghost of Sammy Baugh says:

I would say the last four late FA moves by BRUCE ALLEN have improved this club immeasurably.

1 – RYAN CLARK eliminates the must have FS in the draft.
2 – DeSEAN JACKSON eliminates the need for a WR in the draft.
3- COLT McCOY eliminates the need for a move if KIRK COUSINS is traded. And/or removes REX GROSSMAN
4 – ROB JACKSON stabalizes the OLB slots and eliminates the need for a draft pick.

    Now in the draft:

    a – Need a R-OT. TYLER POLUMBUS – no. TOM COMPTON? BRUCE CAMPBELL a back-up.
b – Excellent TE to team with JORDAN REED and LOGAN PAULSON. NILES PAUL – no.
c – ILB is weak. Another potential starter is needed.
d – KEDRICK GOLSTON needs a replacement at DT.
e – injured STEPHEN BOWEN may be a cap casualty. DOUG WORTHINGTON unproven. DE a need.
    f – SS back-up needed.
g – back-up RB’s EVAN ROYSTER and ROY HELU Jr. need an upgrade.

CSN REDSKINS thinks the club will almost certainly draft a R-OT. So do I and at #34 if the right man presents.

We both agree, no more interior o-linemen.

They think the REDSKINS will draft a WR. I do not.

CSN thinks the REDSKINS will not draft a TE. I do.

They equivocate as to the REDSKINS drafting a RB. I do not think they will.

We both agree, no FB will be drafted.

So, two of six picks for the offense unless COUSINS is traded for a 2/3. Then maybe a WR.
The help is mainly needed on defense.

There DT/DE, ILB, SS, FS are all needs [5]. ILB is the biggest in my estimation.

    Current mock

034 – RaSHEDE HAGEMAN Minnesota DT
066 – JOEL BITONIO Nevada OT
102 – YAWIN SMALLWOOD Connecticut ILB
142 – CROCKETT GILMORE Colorado TE
178 – DAN SORENSON Brigham Young SS
217 – AARON LYNCH South Florida DE

JAMES WILDER Jr. Florida State RB
    RYAN GROY Wisconsin G
    L.J. McCRAY Catawba SS

And if the club trades KIRK COUSINS during the draft for a second or third rounder, a S should be selected.

This is based on perceived position needs of the club and best available.
