Shanahan Says RG III Ahead Of Schedule From Knee Surgery

It’s the topic that will be on the mind of the Redskins and their fans all the way till he is back on the field – will RG III make it back for the 2013 opener?

Coach Mike Shanahan said at the owners meeting that Griffin III is “ahead of schedule” in his return from knee surgery.

Shanahan said that when Griffin comes back, he must learn how to protect himself in the face of the fierce defenses in the NFL.

Once Griffin does come back, Shanahan says the young quarterback needs to learn to slide and throw the ball away to avoid the big hits that lead to injuries.

Shanahan says that “if hard work has anything to do with it,” Griffin will be ready for the coming season.

I’d like to see SHANAHAN own some of the responsibility for having RGIII play hurt.

He should have been shut down, and Captain KIRK take over, whether GRIFFIN or ANDREWS said so or not.

Current FA list, assuming we sign a FS [BARBER or REED], FRED DAVIS, and REX GROSSMAN in FA.

    2 [051] – ERIC REID FS Louisiana State 6?2″ 213; 4.53 40
    3 [085] – DARIUS SLAY CB Mississippi State 6?0? 193 4.36 40
    4 [116] – ZAVIER GOODEN OLB Missouri 6’2? 234; 4.47 40
    5 [147] – JONATHAN STEWART ILB Texas A&M 6’4? 242; 4.68 40
    5 [155] – TERRY HAWTHORN CB Illinois 6’0? 196; 4.44 40
    6 [181] – ZAC STACY RB Vanderbilt 5’8? 217; 4.55 40
    7 [217] – COOPER TAYLOR SS Richmond 6’4? 230; 4.57 40

Well REED and two other FS’s are now off the market. Not much hope of landing one that’s any good now.

  5. 007 says:

I can’t see us relying on TANARD JACKSON, so we have to take a FS at #51. My pick ERIC REID from LSU.

DAVIS in the house not likely, and if that’s the case ultimately, we should draft a TE in the third round. My preference is TRAVIS KELCIE from Cincinnati.

In the fourth, we need an ILB but.with a ROB JACKSON suspension and a double pec injury to ORAKPO we need a back-up plan at OLB – ZAVIER GOODEN from Missouri

Definitely another safety pick here with no one in sight from the FA market. At #147, JOSH EVANS Florida

If we can squeeze in ANTOINE WINFIELD, we will have the pressure off having to draft a CB in the top rounds. My choice is TERRY HAWTHORNE from Illinois in the fifth at #155.

In the sixth a RB. I really like ZAC STACY from Vanderbilt.

In the seventh JONATHAN STEWART ILB from Texas A&M

    And as a UDFA

    COOPER TAYLOR SS Richmond.

DAVIS signed and TAPP as insurance for CARRIKER, ORAKPO, and JACKSON. That changes things a lot in the upcoming draft.

To my mind we still need a FS and CB in free agency then one of each in the draft. ZBut with only 3+ million under the cap at this point, we have to sign our picks.

If we land both in FA before the draft, then we might trade back in the second and pick up a couple extra picks next season. With six picks and none higher than third, 3+ million might just stand up under the cap.

But to do that, we’ve got to find more $$$ to sign two more free agents.

  7. 007 says:

    Latest draft construct

2 [051] – FS ERIC REID Louisiana State
    3 [085] – CB BLIDI WREH-WILSON Connecticut
    4 [117] – ILB JON BOSTIC Florida
5 [147] – TE DION SIMS Michigan State
    5 [155] – CB TERRY HAWTHORNE Illinois
    6 [181] – RB ZAC STACY Vanderbilt
    7 [212] – WR/KR MARCUS DAVIS Virginia Tech

    UDFA

    SS – COOPER TAYLOR Richmond
OT – WADE JACOBSON Washington State

Still assuming we sign a vet FS and CB before the draft.
