The Redskins have hired A.J. Smith, the former General Manager of the San Diego Chargers, in an advisory role within the Front Office, according to various (confirmed) reports.
Smith was recently fired by San Diego after 10 years serving as the team’s general manager, after the team missed the playoffs for three straight seasons. However, in the 10 years that Smith was the GM, the Chargers made the playoffs in 5 of them , with double-digit wins in 4 of them. 2012, what proved to be Smith’s last season with the team, was the only year where the Chargers had less than 8 wins under Smith’s tenure.
Smith’s son, Kyle, is currently a scout for the Redskins. It was reported that A.J. Smith was going to talk to the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots for a similar position.
