There are various reports floating about this afternoon indicating (now former) Redskins special teams coach Danny Smith has accepted the same position with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Many have said that Pittsburgh sought Smith for quite some time, but the Redskins repeatedly turned down other team’s requests to interview him (from multiple other teams), at least until this offseason.
Smith joined the team in 2004 when Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs returned to the Redskins. He was also the special teams coach for the Buffalo Bills from 2001 to 2003, when former Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was the head coach there. Smith joined Williams on the Redskins coaching staff that came with Gibbs return.
