DT Chris Neild tears ACL, likely out for the season

With much of the focus on players rehabilitating from old injuries or recovering from training-camp related nagging injuries, the first major training camp injury manifested itself today for the Redskins.

Defensive tackle Chris Neild, a 7th round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, tore his ACL in practice today and will miss the 2012 regular season, according to head coach Mike Shanahan.

Shanahan called Neild “a fighter,” and said that this is “only a setback” for the 2nd year pro. He started his pro career with two sacks and a forced fumble in the Redskins win over the New York Giants in last year’s regular season opener, and appeared in all 16 games.

Neild’s injury likely opens up a door for defensive tackle Chris Baker to make the Redskins 53 man roster.
