FA Safety Williams Choosing Between the Redskins and Falcons

Safety Madieu Williams is trying to come to a final decision on where he will play in 2012, reports says the free agent has offers on the table from the Falcons and Redskins.

A 2004 second round pick out of the University of Maryland by the Cincinnati Bengals, Williams has 488 tackles, 4.5 quarterback sacks, and 12 interceptions in an 103-game career with the Bengals (2004-07), Minnesota Vikings (2008-10) and San Francisco 49ers, where he spent the 2011 season after being released by the Vikings for salary cap purposes.

Williams played behind Pro Bowl free safety Dashon Goldson last season, recording six tackles in around 14 percent of the 49ers’ defensive snaps. Williams added three tackles on special teams during the regular season and recorded a tackle and forced fumble on special teams in the playoffs.

The Redskins released safety O.J. Atogwe and lost LaRon Landry to free agency. Atlanta lost James Sanders to free agency last week.

If we sign this safety, the next area of greatest need becomes first an ILB, then both a back-up center and CB. I’m assuming we’ll draft at least one CB. My pick for CB is CHRIS WOODWARD Albion in the fifth who has been zooming up the scout charts since his workouts have been noticed by folks other than the COWBOYS. Let’s get this guy BRUCE. We don’t want to deal with him for the next ten years having a blue star on a silver helmet. My longshot at CB is MICAH PELLERIN Hampton, seventh round but no higher.
