Redskins willing to trade multiple 1st round picks to move up in 2012 NFL Draft

Per the Football Insider blog of the Washington Post:

The Washington Redskins are prepared to part with two first-round draft picks, plus other selections in the early and middle rounds, to secure the St. Louis Rams’ No. 2 pick in April’s draft and land Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, according to people with knowledge of the situation.

The Rams are said to be seeking compensation similar to what the San Diego Chargers received from the New York Giants in exchange for Eli Manning in 2004. That year, the Chargers drafted Manning first overall. The Giants sent their fourth overall pick, the following year’s first-round pick, and their 2004 third- and fifth-round picks to San Diego for the quarterback who has since led New York to two Super Bowl victories.

Here’s an interesting note: there’s a rumor that, at the NFL Combine, Mike Shanahan, Bruce Allen, and Dan Snyder shared a meal and drinks with new Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and new Rams general manager Les Snead.

Now ordinarily, meetings like this are nothing more than your typical “power lunches” that might be shared in country club settings, but given the continued rumors linking these two teams in trade talks, one can only imagine what topic dominated the conversations during this “get together.”

In addition, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post Dispatch believes the Redskins are the front runners, in regards to any potential trades with the Rams:

For now, the early front-runner for Griffin probably is Washington, in large part because of the good relationship between team executives (Washington’s Bruce Allen and [Kevin Demoff, the Rams’ executive vice president of football operations]) and coaches (Jeff Fisher and Washington’s Mike Shanahan).

My belief is that, if a trade is consummated between the Redskins and Rams, it’ll cost the Redskins a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the 2012 draft, plus a 1st round pick and 5th round pick in the 2013 draft.

Keep the talk going. But so far early indications are that ALLEN-SHANAHAN are sticking to the game-plan by working on FA’s on both lines, and no $$$$ guaranteed. Keeping their flexibility at a maximum.
