Redskins among teams in “best shape” regarding Salary Cap room

With the Free Agency period set to begin in just a few weeks, Redskins fans can likely expect the team to once again be active, given the teams copious salary cap space heading into this offseason.

ESPN’s John Clayton called the Redskins among the teams in “best shape” regarding how much salary cap room they have available:

Dan Snyder of the Washington Redskins has plenty of room to get quarterback and receiver help, thanks to $47.56 million of cap space

After dipping into free agency and inking four starters on the defensive unit last offseason, many people believe the Redskins front office will turn their attention to the other side of the football, and upgrade the offense this year.

As Clayton speculated, quarterback and wide receiver are the positions that top the list of priorities for upgrading. The majority of Redskins fans have undoubtedly heard the Redskins (supposed) interest in signing Peyton Manning, should he be released by the Indianapolis Colts, but Kyle Orton and Matt Flynn are also names that have been linked to the Redskins as well; Orton’s name has been linked several times to the team by “people in the know,” with Orton perhaps serving as the “bridge” quarterback, ahead of a potential draft pick at the position.

Other offensive positions the Redskins could likely look to upgrade include Right Tackle, Left Guard, and depth at running back.

Looks like the franchise tag may be slapped on BOWE . That only leaves VINCE JACKSON as a viable WR threat for the REDSKINS. The other FA’s are almost no improvement over what we’ve already got. Missing on JACKSON, we will probably spend on BLACKMON at #6, or more likely a move down with extra picks like last year, and JURON CRINER or JARRETT BOYKIN fifth round.
