Theismann Not a Fan of the Redskins Going for Peyton Manning

Joe Theismann has never been shy with his opinions about his old team (or anything else for that matter). It is therefore not surprising that he has strong feelings about the speculation that Peyton Manning could become a Redskin. According to Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, Theismann had this to say on 106.7FM in Washington:

“It’s not a good idea, it’s not a bad idea — it’s a horrific idea. “It would be one of the poorest things that we could do as a franchise. Are we gonna go find another guy for just a couple of years again? Haven’t we done this before? Haven’t we seen this act before? And by the way, if you get Peyton Manning, don’t you have a concern about protecting him? Don’t you have a concern about who he throws the football to?”

“We’re tired of looking for stop gaps,” he continued. “It’s time to draft one of your own, or make a deal for a young one of your own, and nurture him, and then put the players around him. If we’re gonna be 5-11, if we’re gonna be 6-10, let’s do it with somebody who’s (learning as he goes), instead of guys that have been here, making mistakes.”

Theismann actually makes a lot of sense on this one. The Redskins are a rebuilding team and bringing in a 36-year-old quarterback coming off of three neck surgeries probably isn’t the brightest move they could make.

THEISMANN……Who cares? We need to have another re-stocking draft. There are too many holes still in this roster to blow off this draft and the next just to get a top-notch guy at QB.

If MANNING will come for three at a reasonable cost, and this allows us the opportunity to secure the offensive side of the ball in the process, we can finally see what type of talent we truly have at TE, RB, and WR. At least with a re-built O-line, the passes will be reasonably close to the receivers with MANNING at the helm.

If MATT FLYNN’s the man, how do we know he’s a starter at QB? His track record is pretty thin at this point.

And if we move on LUCK or RG3 in the draft, re-building is over for three years. I think anyone who’s a knowledgable REDSKINS fan knows we can’t afford that. Besides either could be BLAINE GABBERT in disguise.

At least, we had the opportunity to pick him and passed. VINNIE ‘the bag-man’ would be chuckling and thinking what a great deal he pulled off by getting GABBERT while outsmarting the experts. Then we’d be stuck with the sucker.

MANNING is not a good idea. it’s not a bad idea. MANNING is a great idea. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Mr. Thees-man.
