How Focused are the Skins on Rebuilding Their Secondary?

Foot specialists have recommended that Redskins S LaRon Landry undergo surgery to repair his Achilles tendon but reports from a few days ago mentioned that he’s decided to not have the surgery.

Landry, who will be a free agent, has plenty of talent but the concerns could outweigh the benefits and force him to sign a limited contract that requires him to prove that can stay healthy. As for the Redskins, the back end of their secondary could look much different come next season. Landry’s a free agent and Oshiomogho Atogwe is dealing with a number of injuries.

Washington’s backup options currently consist of DeJon Gomes and Reed Doughty so you can expect to see them kick the tires on some of the available players in free agency or the draft.

  1. Wilson is the only competent, healthy starter, and he’s no star…still, QB and the offensive line are the team top 5 needs. Atogwe should be fine by July. Barnes is competent at FS. Gomes and Doughty are competent at SS. Hall makes big plays. It should be free agency if they choose to upgrade DBs in 2012…although I think just releasing Hall would force an upgrade to Westbrook or Thompson until 2013, when I think they should draft 2 to 3 starters for a DB overhaul.

I have a hard time thinking Barnes is that good, he’s failed to crack the lineup much. As for Landry, wave bye-bye. He refuses to get the Achilles fixed, can’t say healthy, and flexes too much and wraps up too little. Otogwe seems to want to play if he’s healthy, a team-first guy. I do think they should draft a safety and a corner, but first they must have a QB and right tackle………..
