Redskins place LaRon Landry on IR; rookie Gomes to start

Washington Redskins strong safety LaRon Landry is once again heading to the injured reserve list, Mike Jones of The Washington Post reports.

Landry has an injured left Achilles tendon and a strained groin that has limited the sixth overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft to eight games in 2011, the final year of his rookie contract.

Stats: Landry recorded 250 tackles, three quarterback sacks and three interceptions in his first 47 games in the NFL, but his Achilles’ injury, and groin injury in 2011, has limited Landry to just 17 games over the last two seasons. The LSU alum has produced in those games, however, posting 133 tackles, 2.5 quarterback sacks and an interception.

Rookie Replacement: With Landry out, 2011 fifth-round pick Dejon Gomes will start at strong safety.

The rookie out of Nebraska has 24 tackles and a pass defensed in 12 games this season.
