Food For Thought

As my dad and I were watching the Dallas Miami game, we found ourselves still fuming over the heart breaking loss to the ‘boys a week ago. The mere fact that Dallas plays every Thanksgiving because they are America’s team still makes me sick, but it got me thinking.

Washington needs to play one game a year where the nation turns its eyes on the capital. I am not talking about Sunday or Monday Night Football, I am talking about a game where Redskins fans truly get excited. Something like….Washington vs. Dallas at RFK Stadium.

Think about it. What if the ‘Skins played one game a year at RFK stadium? For a couple of years now, and even since Jack Kent Cooke Stadium was built, there has been some talk about moving the Redskins back to DC. In a city with all four major sports, the Redskins rule the roost and should be returned to their rightful owners.

Unfortunately, the Burgundy and Gold will continue to play in Landover, MD. With a lease that runs until 2027, the Redskins will be playing their home games there for years. No matter what fans want, they are not going anywhere.

However, they have a greedy owner who could go along way to restoring his relationship with the fans with one easy decision. Schedule one game a year at the old RFK Stadium.

One game a year at RFK would be a huge hit amongst the fans and the ownership. First off, Dan Snyder would make a lot of money off a return trip to the old Stadium. With enough marketing and merchandise, Snyder could truly make a killing. T-shirts, jerseys, and any other Redskins gear would sell like hotcakes.

From a fans perspective, this is the ultimate dream. A return to the hollowed ground that helped win 3 Super Bowls, made the ‘Hogs’ and the fun bunch, and saw Darrell Green catch Tony Dorsett. Once a year RFK would rock again and sway back and forth, as Redskins fans would unite to sing “Hail To The Redskins”. The thought itself gives me chills.

I understand that there are plenty of reasons why this may never occur, but this could be a win-win for both Synder and the fans.

Perhaps ‘We Want Dallas’ could shake RFK’s bleachers one more time. Think about it Dan, you could go along way in repairing your image with one easy decision.
