Skins Placing CB Phillip Buchanon on IR

Redskins cornerback Phillip Buchanon will be placed on season-ending injured reserve, Rich Tandler of CSN Washington reports.

Buchanon, who was listed as “Questionable” for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers with neck and knee injuries, made the disclosure on his Facebook page on Saturday.

Despite knowing that Buchanon faced a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, the Redskins re-signed Buchanon to what is essentially a one-year, $1.75 million contract. Buchanon appeared in one game, a 33-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers, and recorded no statistics.

To replace Buchanon, the Redskins are expected to sign rookie cornerback Brandyn Thompson off the practice squad, Mike Jones of The Washington Post reports. A seventh-round pick out of Boise State, Thompson has two tackles in two games this season.

I liked what I saw of THOMPSON pre-season whihch wasn’t a lot of course. But he seems to cover well.

At least he’s close to the receiver unlike what cover skills KEVIN BARNES evidenced at that point in his rookie season. Hasn’t gotten much closer as a young vet either judging by the receivers running free over the middle whenever he’s in the game.

Opposing offensive coordinator to his wide-outs, ” Just look for 22 and run by him. The ball will be there.”

UPGRADES in order of importance overlaying our 2012 picks:

    1 – QB
    2 – Right OT
    3 – Weakside ILB
    4 – Center
    4 – DE
    5 – CB
    6 – OG
    6 – FS
    7 – CB

It’s obvious the REDSKINS will need two more drafts just to fill the holes and start to upgrade from there after seeing the draftees play. And it’s also obvious that upgrades on the o-line are not to be had in FA. M. WILLIAMS, OLDENBURG, HICKS, CHESTER, and BROWN were not up to snuff.

Well, WILLIAMS maybe until his health caught up with him. BROWN and CHESTER can at least be interchangable parts, but serious players at QB, R-OT, OG, and C must be had before this team materially improves.

And that’s young draftees, not aging veterans. Deference to GEORGE ALLEN, but the players in the sixties and seventies didn’t have the milage on them that players do today by the time they reach FA.
