Beck Looking Over Film of Redskins Workouts

As the only quarterback on the current Redskins roster guaranteed to be back in 2011, John Beck has been preparing this offseason as if he’ll be the team’s starting quarterback.

The 29-year-old has taken an active role in organizing the player-run workouts, and Rich Campbell of The Washington Times reports that Beck hired someone from his church to film the team’s player-run workouts.

Campbell adds that the players benefit from reviewing the tape from these workouts, but the Redskins coaches may benefit from it, too.

Free agent quarterback Alex Smith wanted to film the San Francisco 49ers’ recent mini-camp, but San Jose State’s video department was on vacation and the equipment locked up. Smith plans to film any future mini-camps, and Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area suggested that there’s nothing prohibiting players from mailing film from these workouts to the coaches to review during the lockout.

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan will bring in another quarterback or two when the lockout ends to compete with Beck for the starting job. It won’t change his spot on the depth chart, but Beck may want to stop by the post office when he and the players are done reviewing the tape.
