Allen Doesn’t Deny McNabb Wrist Band Story

About a week and a half ago 106.7 The Fan Washington reported that according to several sources, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan asked Donovan McNabb to wear a wrist band with the plays on it and McNabb refused.

Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post reported on Redskins GM Bruce Allen’s visit this morning with ESPN 980. Host Abe Pollin asked Allen if the story was true or not. Allen said, “Well, it doesn’t matter on the stories, because obviously last year we were trying to work together as a new staff with new players. And Donovan tried to work into our system, did everything he could, and we just didn’t perform. We were 6-10.”

When pressed by Pollin if it happened or not, Allen said, “Well, yeah. We’re not gonna get into a he-said/she-said type of thing. You know, Donovan’s been a pro his entire career, and we have a great respect for him.”

The story is true folks. Donovan did refuse to wear the stupid wristband. Rex Grossman confirmed it in an interview. The point of question is how upset Shanny and co. actually were about it. I don’t think it was the deal breaker. Lack of film study and inaccuracy were the big problems that got Shanny so upset.
