McNabb joins player workouts organized by Larry Fitzgerald

Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb and Ravens tight end Todd Heap joined several members of the Cardinals in Phoenix on Wednesday in a player workout organized by Larry Fitzgerald.

McNabb, who lives in nearby Chandler, Ariz., and Heap, who played at Arizona State, joined Cardinals quarterbacks John Skelton and Max Hall, and receivers Steve Breaston, Stephen Williams, seventh-round draft pick DeMarco Sampson and Fitzgerald in a low-key workout closed to all but one member of the media.

“I always believe in a low profile,” McNabb told the Arizona Republic. “Guys get a chance to work and it’s not something you’re broadcasting all over the place, telling everybody what you are doing, who is in town, and all of that.

“I think guys understand in this period the work you need to put forth. As you can see, we push each other. A lot of us have known each other for a while.”

McNabb, 34, who was traded to the Redskins last year after 11 seasons with the Eagles, is not expected back with Washington next season.

“The next couple years, we’ll see what happens,” he said. “Who knows where I’ll be anyway? I’m looking forward to that and when that time comes, step in there and be ready to go.”

As the article mentions, it’s worth noting that McNabb keeps an offseason home in Arizona, and frequently works out there during the offseason. Several Redskins players joined McNabb last offseason to participate in his “hell week” workouts, which he organizes.

Still, it’s interesting to see McNabb working out with more members of the Arizona Cardinals than the Washington Redskins. While his Redskins tenure is all but concluded, the Cardinals have been a name he’s been linked to repeatedly, even since McNabb was a member of the Eagles.

The Cardinals front office has recently indicated that they’re not interested in McNabb, but they still remain very much in the search for a new quarterback. If options like Kevin Kolb, Carson Palmer, or Matt Hasselbeck are not available to them, perhaps McNabb is a player whom they could revisit acquiring.
