Report: Redskins to release RB Clinton Portis

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that, per a league source, Redskins running back Clinton Portis will be released sometime in the next day or two.

The news should come with little shock, as head coach Mike Shanahan insinuated recently that Portis’ salary of over $8 million in 2011 will make it difficult for him to keep. Shanahan did say that if Portis were to be released, he’d love to retain him in Washington (albeit at a lower price).

It looks like John Riggins team rushing record will remain intact. I have a feeling Clinton will come back at a very reduced salary, but he is no longer a feature back in the NFL in my opinion.
