Brandon Banks Update

The Washington Post reported new information about the Brandon Banks stabbing. Contrary to previous reports that Banks had been released from the hospital following a stabbing early Saturday morning, his agent James Gould said that he remains hospitalized.

According to Gould, Banks and his childhood friend Christopher Nixon, 24, attended The Park at Fourteenth nightclub last night. Outside the club around 3 am, Nixon and a man named Jason David Shorter had an altercation that became physical.  Banks joined the club’s bouncer to try to separate the fighting men. When the bouncer maneuvered between Nixon and Shorter, Shorter began swinging a knife wildly. Shorter slashed Nixon’s face and torso multiple times and sliced Banks’ upper left abdomen.  Security cameras recorded the fight and corroborated the story.

Nixon was rushed to a DC area hospital for surgery and currently remains in intensive care. Banks was taken to a different hospital with what Gould called “more of a superficial wound.” He received stitches and is expected to be released within the next 24 hours and make a full recovery. Gould told The Washington Post in a phone interview that Banks is with his parents and chiefly is concerned about the welfare of his friend Nixon. “He was trying to save his boyhood friend, and is very concerned about him right now. Brandon is very upset,” said Gould. The Redskins franchise and Gould released the following statement:

“Brandon was not involved in any wrongdoing and was not implicated in any way. Brandon’s immediate concern is for his lifelong friend who is like a brother to him. He would like to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes for him and his lifelong friend.”

Police have the suspect Jason David Shorter, of Lanham MD, in custody. Authorities initially charged Shorter with assault with the intent to kill, but the charge will be downgraded to assault with a dangerous weapon.
