Fired Up

The Bleacher Report noted some firings in the NFL that didn”t make sense and I tend to agree with them:

  • Jim Zorn: The most unlikeable guy in D.C., next to Snyder, Allen, Shanahan(s)…and let’s throw Campbell in there for good measure as well – I think Flacco said it best.
  • Tom Cable: The Raiders were No. 2 in pass defense, No. 2 in run offense and improved their record from 5-11 or worse for seven straight years to 8-8, sweeping their division.
  • Mike Singletary: Singletary deserved one more chance with a real quarterback.
  • John Fox: Stuck with a less than DeAngelo Williams, raw rookie Jimmy Clausen and a defense without Peppers…he was doomed.
  • Eric Mangini: They improved their record and knocked off both the Patriots and the Saints.

Jim Zorn, while not a head coach, he is worthy of a quarterback coach. If you need proof, ask Jason Campbell or Joe Flacco. Two good quarterbacks that he”s coached that also aren”t Redskins.

Then imagine if we had a coach come into the Redskins organization and turn it around like Tom Cable did for the Raiders and made us a relevant team with an 8-8 record (like we were led to believe Shanahan would do). Funny enough, you might be able to thank online casino Zorn in part for Cable”s success since Campbell really stepped it up in Oakland and made a place for him with the organization.

Or like Mike Singletary, John Fox and Mangini who shoulda, woulda, coulda … had their roster not been so damn bad. Singletary was running a boot camp and making strides by moving the worst case scenario players into relevance. Mangini and Fox, likewise, were hurt by roster strength.

So when is it the right time to pull the plug on a head coach? How many bad seasons do you have to live through before it”s time to find another? I guess only an owner would know, but it seems to me these coaches didn”t get their chance.

I guess we can start the clock and watch as the next season unfolds for the Redskins and see what this off season brings. It”s a pity, but it seems the Redskins most exciting football moves come during the off season. At least that”s what most people are talking about during the season.

You mean like, say… Marty Schottenheimer? At least Cable got more than ONE season.
