What a difference a couple of weeks make.
After almost losing his job following the Redskins loss against Tampa Bay a couple of weeks ago, Redskins kicker Graham Gano was named NFC special teams player of the week on Wednesday, after his performance against Jacksonville last Sunday.
Gano connected on field goals spanning 48 and 31 yards amidst an unsually cold and rainy backdrop in Jacksonville. Gano’s 31 yard attempt sealed the Redskins victory in overtime, set up by the interception from cornerback Kevin Barnes.
For the most part, Gano has struggled this season with the Redskins – the team ranks dead last in the league in field goal conversion percentage – but still appears to have the full support of head coach Mike Shanahan, who has repeatedly stated his confidence in Gano’s ability.
