McNabb Comments for the First Time on Benching

Donovan McNabb is talking, and for the first time since being benched last week, he is talking about actually coming back to the Redskins in 2011.

McNabb chatted about it on ESPN 980’s “The Donovan McNabb Show,” co-hosted by Kevin Sheehan and Thom Loverro.

A couple of the highlights included being asked if he would be back next year, and a Redskin. “Well, I definitely hope so and I expressed that,” the QB said. “I don’t want to go anywhere. I love the fans here, in the Northern Virginia, D.C. area – the DMV. I’ve enjoyed myself here. I think we can do some good things here. I thank the fans for all the support they have given me through this whole process and ever since I’ve been here. I look for good things to happen.”

Coming back in 2011 seems a lot more like a longshot after a tough first season as a Redskin, and even coach Mike Shanahan has said that he could not guarantee McNabb would be back next year as a Redskin.

“I really wasn’t looking for a guarantee,” McNabb said. “I want to be here, I do. I don’t believe in starting something and not finishing. I’ve always said from the beginning of the season that we have a core of guys here we can do thing

Shanahan told McNabb of the decision to go with Rex Grossman Thursday night, and the veteran QB said that he was disappointed with the process that went into him sitting against the Cowboys Sunday.

“Normally if you go through a process like that you would find out about it on a Monday or a Tuesday,” McNabb said. “I don’t think you hear about it on a Thursday morning going into Friday practice. My mindset was obviously on being a starter, preparing to go down to Dallas and trying to help the team win. Obviously that came to an end on Thursday evening.”
