Safety Chris Horton’s season is over

Safety Chris Horton

Redskins safety Chris Horton, who made appearances on defense and regularly played on special teams this season, suffered a high ankle sprain while covering a kickoff against Detroit on Halloween day. The Redskins have placed him on season-ending injured reserve. Yesterday Mike Shanahan commented on Horton’s injury.

“Same thing… a setback. He’s been doing a great job on special teams and, you know, that ankle’s been bothering him. He’s had a normal ankle sprain which has been in the area for a few weeks. Obviously the high ankle sprain keeps him out for the season.”

Anderson Russell, a rookie safety who spent the first half of the season on the practice squad, was promoted to the active roster to fill the gap at safety left by Horton.
