QB JaMarcus Russell at Redskins Park for a workout

Just when things couldn’t get any more awkward or weirder, they did.

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the former #1 overall pick for the Raiders who was released during the off-season amidst allegations of abusing prescription-based codeine, is at Redskins Park, working out for the team.

Unless Russell has fully embraced his annual penchant for coming to camp way overweight and decided to change positions to Guard or Center, this move is puzzling (if not shocking), to say the least.

  1. Chris says:

As the head coach, Mike Shanahan obviously has every right change QBs in the final minutes of a game, if he truly feels that it gives him the best opportunity for victory. He also is going to have to live with the consequences.

Donovan McNabb is no Albert Haynesworth. And the Shanahan coaching duo have played themselves into a very tight corner.

JaMarcus Russell? Really? Is this the dog and pony show that is supposed to motivate (or threaten) a veteran like McNabb?

Would he potentially replace McNabb or Grossman? Either option seems fairly ridiculous at this point, and many a Redskin’s supporter will be very nervous if Russell is being scouted for the full time position for future seasons.

  2. Teams bring attention to themselves with 4th quarter benching and then bringing in Russell for a workout? They are just asking for trouble with such a high profile quarterback in Mcnabb.
