On Haynesworth: “Wow”

Albert Haynesworth’s teammates were thrilled with the defensive lineman’s performance after Sunday’s 17-14 victory over Chicago, a game in which Haynesworth posted his first sack of the year and looked dominant at times. He even leaped over an offensive lineman on a goal-line play, allowing inside linebacker London Fletcher to pop the ball loose from Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

“Was that Albert that went up and over?” Fletcher said. “Oh, wow.”

Haynesworth was credited with just three tackles, but he added the sack and had two tackles for losses. His performance came after he missed the previous two weeks in the wake of the death of his brother.

“He was starting to get comfortable with everything we’re doing,” Fletcher said. “He definitely made a ton of plays. You think about the goal-line play. He had the sack. He had another key play, a tackle for loss on third down.”

Haynesworth dismissed talk afterward that he wanted to be traded before last week’s deadline. He now has two solid performances in a row. He drew two holding penalties in an Oct. 3 victory at Philadelphia, his last appearance. His teammates believe Sunday could spur more similar performances.

“Once he goes out there and puts his mind to it, he’s an unbelievable player,” cornerback Carlos Rogers said.
