Monday Morning Reports

Here’s a roundup of Redskins v. Cowboys game analysis by The Washington Post:

Michael Wilbon writes: “It’s exactly the kind of game the Washington Redskins have been mostly unable to win over the past dozen years. It was a fitting beginning for the Redskins, given the drama of the last few months. Albert Haynesworth went on and off the field without an oxygen tank and apparently without a sideline blowup with Mike Shanahan. McNabb, maybe the biggest acquisition in the entire NFL this offseason, had a clean sheet. And the Redskins’ defensive secondary, which ought to be a strength of the team given the personnel, played like it for the most part, though it needed some good fortune to survive a couple of blown assignments over the final minutes of the game.

Thomas Boswell writes: “Is it possible that their luck has begun to change? If so, then that shift in Redskins affairs certainly picked a symbolic night to make its appearance. the Redskins have never had a celebrity coach and an exciting quarterback come to town together and have their debuts in the same game. Until Sunday night, that is, when Coach Mike Shanahan, with his Super Bowl rings, and Donovan McNabb, with five NFC championship games on his resume, arrived together.”

Barry Svrluga reports: “The aesthetics left something to be desired, and the fact that Shanahan’s offense managed just 250 yards – and didn’t produce a touchdown – will be analyzed in the days ahead.”

Jason Reid‘s reports: “Redskins fans left the stadium celebrating an opening victory against the rival Cowboys that also ended a losing streak against NFC East opponents at six games. After going winless against the division last season, the Redskins started things well despite their shaky performance on offense.”
