Chelle’s Picks 9-12-10

First of all, Hail to the Redskins!!  Can’t wait for kickoff.  Dallas, I hope you slept good last night, because tonight you’re going to feel the hurt.

Now, my picks for the week.

 Top 4:

Cincinnati vs. New England.  If the Saints / Vikings was the best revenge game of the season, next to the Ravens / Jets ( see below), then this one is the best throw down, period.  Carson Palmer has got a lot to prove, and he finally has the weapons he needs to prove it.  T.O’chocinco make an explosive duo, and the Pats don’t have the long D to stop them while still blocking the run. That having been said, Tom Brady is now the highest paid player in the game.  And he’s earned it.  Today will be no different, and the Pats will come out on top.

Carolina vs. Giants.  Wow!  This game will be fun.  Not good, but fun.  You’re going to see tons of penalties, a few fumbles, a few interceptions, and two old coaches standing around looking pissed off.  An all around hoot!  But Matt Moore is way better than anyone (including his team) is giving him credit for.  He’ll play like the pro he is, and you’ll see lots of deep pass action from both of these teams.  Sadly, the Giants’ run game will win them the matchup.

Dallas vs. Washington.  Sweet!!!!!!!  There is no better way to start the season than this infamous, hard-hitting, serious trash talking HOME OPENER.  Fed Ex field will be rocking so hard tonight that Big Daddy will feel it all the way over at the White House.  Too bad you’ll only see Jerry Jones from behind the glass up in his little suite, because he’s going to be rip roaring pissed off.  Shanahan and the boys have everything to prove, and there is no higher stakes’ game than this. It’ll be close, and mean, and the Skins will take home the victory.  Call it wishful online casino thinking if you like.  I call it being a fan of the best GD team in the league!!!!

Baltimore vs. New York Jets.  Boy I’m glad they put this game on Monday night, so I have time to recover from the Cinci-New England matchup and a full day to rest from playing Cowboys and Indians.  These teams are not rivals in the strictest sense of the word, but they have bonusconsultant no love for each other.  And the Jets have done a lot of talking in the preseason.  Now’s the time to live up to it.  My prediction, NY will be a hard fight, but Baltimore will win, on the road.  And it’ll be the start of a record-breaking season for the Ravens.  Look out Manning.  Look out Brady.  There’s a new QB on the block.

I’m taking Atlanta over Pittsburgh.  Pitt’s had too many off-season troubles with the QB, and they never play well with a backup sitting in. Now they’ve lost Leftwich and are down to Dixon.  And they still have Mike Tomlin coaching them.  Matt Ryan will shine—okay, he might get picked off once or twice.  But the Falcons will still take the day.  And the Steelers will beg Goodell to have their boy back.

 Who cares?

Tampa Bay will beat the Browns, Jake Delhomme not withstanding.  That organization still hasn’t gotten it together.  The only thing rockin’ in Cleveland is the Hall of Fame—Rock’n’Roll that is.

The Bills will take the Dolphins.

Indie and Houston.  Rivalry.  What rivalry?  1-15 doesn’t count as a rivalry, folks.  Colts will win, with Peyton’s hands tied behind his back.  (No really guys, try it, just for fun.)

 Broncos will crush the Jaguars.

The Titans will kill the Raiders.  And Campbell will end up on his back, again.  Or maybe in the fetal position, cuddling the ball he just fumbled, off the snap!

If there’s one game this week that I don’t know how to pick, it has got to be the Lions and the Bears, oh my.  Matt Stafford is a beast—albeit a little pale, slimy, snotty beast—and I’m not just saying that because he broke the team’s losing streak.  (who was that against? oh yeah. HTTR!)  He’s got the eye. And Orton’s good at throwing to the wrong team.  But on a close call, I’ve got to go with the home team, even if it is Lovie Smith’s home.

Cardinals vs. the Rams.  Another tough pick.  Neither team showed well in the preseason, and the Rams are still ironing out some of their basic roster problems.  The Cardinals have ‘solved’ theirs, but Derek Anderson is not a man to put your money on.  I’m going with the Cardinals, but I’ll probably regret it.

Green Bay and Phillie—yes, this game is a who cares.  As in, who cares that Aaron Rodgers is way better than Brett Favre?  Or who cares that Andy Reid has lost his mind?  Who cares that this match up was key last season?  This game will stink, and the Packers will win it.  Yet another reason for Phillie fans to be disgruntled.

The 49rs will be crushed by the Seahawks at Qwest Field.

Kansas City will forget why they bother to get up in the morning after San Diego kills them at home.
