Thursday Report & Notes

Raiders QB Jason Campbell on the rumors of DT Albert Haynesworth being traded back to the Titans: “Tell him to wait until after this week, then he can make his move.”

If he had been forthright about his pre-camp hamstring injury, WR Malcolm Kelly could have been put on the PUP list instead of IR. “Nobody wants to be hurt on the first day of camp,” he said. “You don’t tell them every single little thing.”

WR Devin Thomas likely will return kicks vs. Dallas, but his role in the offense is less certain. “Going in, he’s not slated to do as much because of the group we’ve got going,” offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said.

Coach Mike Shanahan once tried to sign QB Tony Romo — both attended Eastern Illinois. He offered the undrafted Romo $20,000 to sign with Denver, which was twice as much as the Cowboys were offering. But Romo opted for the better chance to win a backup job.

Coach Mike Shanahan put to end the rumors about any trade regarding Albert Haynesworth this week. “Albert will be with our team on Sunday,” Shanahan said. But he declined to say if, or how much, he would play vs. Dallas.

QB Donovan McNabb isn’t worried about a loss of rhythm after missing two weeks with a sprained ankle. “We have all week to get back into it; it’s not like I was out for eight weeks,” he said.

QB Donovan McNabb hasn’t had a sack-free game vs. Dallas since 2001. In the past three seasons, covering seven games, McNabb has been sacked 23 times vs. the Cowboys. Their pass rush plus his penchant for trying to make plays downfield have equaled sacks.

Rookie LT Trent Williams has an easy place to look for help in preparing for DeMarcus Ware. Former LT Chris Samuels, a Redskins coaching intern, has talked with Williams about facing the Pro Bowler. Ware has six career sacks vs. Washington in 10 games.

Rookie LT Trent Williams faced a player comparable to Dallas LB DeMarcus Ware in the preseason, Baltimore’s Terrell Suggs. But Suggs got the better of the matchup as Williams looked surprised by his speed.

Rookie LT Trent Williams has a tough assignment for his first game. Dallas LB DeMarcus Ware. “It would be easier to start off with someone not as good, but it sets the stage,” Williams said.
