Westbrook Still Talking To Rams

Whether the Redskins need a fourth 3rd down back on their team, I’m not sure.  But Brian Westbrook is still an option for many teams out there and for some reason the Rams keep on coming back to the forefront of the conversation. Together with power back Steven Jackson, who is rehabbing from back surgery, Westbrook could be a devastating compliment to the Rams backfield and make a bigger impact than he might by joining the Redskins.

The Rams got a dose of positive injury news on Tuesday when Steven Jackson was cleared for training camp, among many other players.

Jackson should be able to “do most everything” in camp after undergoing back surgery this offseason, according to coach Steve Spagnuolo.  (I can almost hear Evan Silva moving Jackson’s fantasy ranking up as we speak.)

The question now becomes: Will Brian Westbrook join Jackson in the backfield?

The Rams still hope so.

“We’re still looking at that. I’ve talked to Brian,” Spagnuolo said.  “But we have to let that process play itself out. There’s decision on both sides. We’re hopeful there. We’ll see what happens.”

I hope he signs with the Rams, even though Westbrook and his family are from the D.C. area.  I think reuniting with Spags would be a good thing though, and his screen game will really bolster Sam Bradford’s confidence.  He can be so much more than just a third down guy in St. Louis.

Also, I slyly picked up Westbrook after my fantasy football draft was over this past weekend, you know just in case the Rams or Redskins made a deal with him.  Honestly, I think if he went to the Rams he’d play a lot more and would thus score me many more fantasy points than if he was competing for time with 2-3 other veterans that can all basically do the same things.  But that personal note had very little to do with the intention of this post….

(please rams, please rams, please rams, please rams, please rams, please rams…)
