Report: McNabb Jerseys #2 Most Popular in NFL

It seems like nobody is having trouble getting behind the former Eagle-turned-Redskin Donovan McNabb, especially when it comes to jersey sales.  According to the Washington Post, McNabb’s sales are still the second best in the league.

In the first month after he arrived in Washington, Donovan McNabb’s Redskins jersey was the league’s No. 2 seller on

We’ve now had three months for initial spikes of enthusiasm to level off, and in that three-month span, McNabb remains No. 2 in the league, according to the site. He’s the only Redskins player in the top 25.

Interestingly, McNabb — or maybe general optimism about life — has helped the Redskins jump into the top 10 in overall team merchandise sales. For the year from April 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010, the Skins were the only NFC East team that didn’t appear in the overall top 10, but from April 1 to June 30 of this year, the Skins have been sixth.

(The Cowboys were third, the Giants were fifth and the Eagles ninth. The Broncs — helped by top individual seller Tim Tebow — were first, and the Super Bowl champion Saints were second.)

The site doesn’t give out specific player rankings past No. 25, but a spokeswoman told me that two other Redskins — Chris Cooley and Brian Orakpo — are in the top 100 in player sales.

Of the top 25 players, 13 are quarterbacks, and seven play in the NFC East.

I for one am not surprised McNabb’s sales are still quite high.  He’s a like able guy, a proven leader, a seasoned quarterback that many would associate with greatness, and he’s been a formidable opponent for over a decade that I think most D.C. area sports fans are happy to have now that he suits up closer to the Potomac. In fact, in the wake of the Jason Campbell and Jim Zorn era — I’m surprised McNabb isn’t #1.  Which reminds me, are there any plans for a Shanahan jersey in the works?
