WR Marques Hagans Cut

Via The Insider:

Addressing their surplus at wide receiver, the Washington Redskins waived Marques Hagans Tuesday. The transaction leaves the team with 11 wideouts.

The former U-Va star never saw the field for the Skins after joining the team as a practice squad player in December 2008. He was waived in August of last year and signed again in April. He caught nine passes for 108 yards in two seasons with the St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs.

Hagans’ waiver is the first of several moves management is likely to make at the position before the team’s season opener on September 12. The Redskins added veterans Joey Galloway and Mike Furrey this offseason to go with Santana Moss, and are hoping Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, both of whom are entering their third year in the league, will break out this season.

The wide receiver corps also currently includes two rookies — Terrence Austin of UCLA and 5-foot-7 Brandon Banks from Kansas State. Second-year player Anthony Armstrong, who impressed at OTAs earlier this month, also is in the mix.
