Westbrook / Skins Still Talking

Brian Westbrook is a great RB that deserves consideration who knows how to work with the QB and take a checkdown pass for a first down and way beyond… but his injury prone career?  His age?  The current depth at backfield?   Don’t know if it’s really in the cards afterall.

Signing veteran running back Brian Westbrook remains a consideration, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday.

Westbrook visited Redskin Park earlier this month and has also talked with St. Louis and Denver since his release by Philadelphia.

“Still talking,” Shanahan said. “He hasn’t made a decision yet. I’m kind of talking to his brother [Byron, a Redskins cornerback] and getting in good with him. Not sure it’s helped a whole lot but I’ll keep on trying.”

Even with Willie Parker and Larry Johnson added to the mix with Clinton Portis, the Redskins could use Westbrook’s skill set.

“He does bring something to the table with the third down package,” Shanahan said. “He has hands, he’s blocked and the more people we can have competing for certain positions, the better off we’re going to be.”
