For Now, Shanahan Holding Off On Polygraph

When it comes to getting a jump on the HGH rumors, Mike Shanahan will instead sit back and let “due process” take care of itself, before he gets out the polygraph and starts making the locker room rounds in search of the truth. Atleast according to Mike Florio over at PFT who had this report: [via]

“I read so many different reports and there are so many rumors and speculation that happens,” Shanahan said. “I always let the due process take care of itself and if there is any validity in those statements then we’ll act accordingly.”

We don’t need a polygraph to conclude that Shanahan is stretching the truth a bit when he says he “always let[s] the due process take care of itself.” If that were the case, he’d need no lie detector.

Besides, there’s nothing Shanahan can do in this situation. The steroids policy falls within the jurisdiction of the Commissioner. If any action will be taken, it will come from 280 Park Avenue.

Shanahan also spoke about the league’s overall effectiveness when it comes to keeping performance-enhancing drugs out of the sport.

“I think the NFL has done a great job keeping on top of everything,” Shanahan said. “To me, the competitive edge that people have had before — you go back 10, 15, 20 years there’s a lot of stories. I think the NFL has done a great job of implementing its program and we’ll let the due process take care of itself.”

We’ll certainly see how this “process” twists and turns as it unfolds, that much I can guarantee.
