GM Bruce Allen: “There Has Been Interest In Campbell”

Confirming what everyone already hoped was happening, the terms of a trade for Jason Campbell have been discussed with other interested teams. Hopefully the Redskins find a way to get some more picks — possibly second or third round for Campbell’s release. [via The Post]

“It’s hard to predict. You would think, common sense, that might happen. There’s been some conversations with people who are interested. You know, Jason’s a known commodity and a proven player in this league. But nothing is imminent.”

The report goes on to suggest that the Redskins are still open to drafting a QB — even though the most needed, obvious, and best move is shoring up the offensive line.

The Redskins last Thursday conducted private workouts with Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen — considered the top quarterbacks in the draft — in Norman, Okla., and South Bend, Ind. The Redskins did not consider canceling those trips after trading for McNabb because “those were a very important part of the evaluation,” Allen said. “Really got to know them even better, even though it’s the third, fourth time I had an opportunity to talk to ’em. Both players had good workouts.”

And in other obvious news, none of the teams with top selections want to give up their picks.

“History will tell you that there’s not much trading in the top four picks. We’ve looked at it a number of different ways. But in the recent years, there’s not a lot of movement up there. We are listening. The phones will be open. We have a listed phone number, in case someone wants to make a trade, but it’s hard to project what’s gonna happen.”

Can you tell the draft is right around the corner and no one has anything left to speculate about? We’re down to the wire here, 4 days to go and counting…
