Shanny: “Totally Disagree” With Haynesworth Decision

Coach Mike Shanahan on Albert Haynesworth not practicing with the team:

“I totally disagree with [Haynesworth’s] decision to not be there. But I respect him being there the first day and sitting down and talking to me man to  man. Any time a person’s willing to do that, you feel good about the communication. Obviously, he’s a dominating player. And when the time comes, we’ll evaluate where he should play and what gives us the best chance to win.”

This is what leadership looks like people — a coach not afraid to tell it like it is.  Shanahan does not mince words — and he has let his priorities be know to the team and to the media from day 1.  It’s about winning games, not stats, and certainly not 100+ million dollar egos.

Up until now Haynesworth has been treated like an expensive product imported from Tennessee, and his actions this spring have only fortified that opinion. But Shanahan has rightly put him back where he belongs, he is not a product…. he’s a player.  And like all players, your position gets evaluated by those in charge — the coaches.  And the coach’s perspective cannot be ignored here, and Mike Shanahan has the right perspective on this matter.
