Owens’ Agent Talking to Redskins?

When I saw this headline at PFT:

Rosenhaus says he’s talking to three teams about T.O.

… I immediately thought that the Redskins could and should be in the mix here.  And when I looked at the post, I wasn’t the only one that thought of Washington as a potential bidder.

Per Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, agent Drew Rosenhaus says he’s in “active discussions” with three teams regarding Owens, that there’s “no set number” for a contract, and that a deal might not be done until the eve of training camp.

In our view, interest in T.O. probably is tied to the outcome of the draft and/or the availability of Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall.  If the Seahawks, for example, don’t get Marshall, they may want Owens.  And if the Broncos move Marshall, T.O. could be an option.

We also wouldn’t rule out the Redskins, for the right price.  Four years ago, it was then-Denver coach Mike Shanahan who first kicked T.O.’s tires.  But Shanahan wanted a bargain; Owens held out for — and got — a three-year, $25 million contract from the Cowboys.

Here’s the thing, it’s not four years ago and T.O. is now in his late 30’s.  And he has somehow priced his services at 5 million for the year. But here is the good news, T.O. had a sobering year up north in Buffalo — and I went to school in Rochester, NY — I know how sobering an environment it is up there in Western New York. But I digress, my point is that Owens will be ready for a warmer climate, a winning reputation and attitude,  and yet another welcoming team that is in desperate need of an offensive spark that he can provide.

Therefore, I think Owens is a perfect WR prospect for the 2010 Redskins.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Shanahan tries to get a discount out of Owens again (7.5 million over 2 years?), but this time he might just get it.  T.O. has worn out his welcome so many other places that DC may be the only market that can handle his ego, pay him handsomely, and afford to let him do his thing and provide a spark to their ailing offense.

What do you think?

In any case T.O. is such a polarizing figure, I expect to see some passionate comments about this one….

T.O. is past his prime. He showed that last year with the Bills, and would be nothing more than a distraction to a skins team that doesn’t need it. Let T.O. be a cancer elsewhere.

I think TO can handle washington, and i think washington can handle TO.

I think he still has gas left in the tank and a #1 receiver like owens is needed here.

the draft should be used for o-line and depth. this is a perfect signing for the skins who have deep pockets
