Redskins To Work Out Tebow In Coming Weeks

FLA QB Tim Tebow will be coming to DC sometime over the next few weeks, as Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen have been making preparations to check out the former Heisman’s new mechanics.

Via The Post:

Tebow participated in the University of Florida’s pro day on Wednesday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla. With a variety of prospects on display, scouts and executives from most teams were on hand, as well as a handful of head coaches. Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan and General Manager Bruce Allen were not present, but they didn’t need to be if they plan on viewing Tebow up-close at Redskins Park in the coming weeks. Tebow will also workout with Buffalo, Cleveland, New England and Seattle, according to the report.

With the ink still drying from Rex Grossman’s new 1 year contract with the Redskins, I have to wonder if this is a serious measure or just half-hearted. Part of me thinks that Shanahan and Allen have a budget, and they’ve been fairly frugal thus far with it.  The plan that seems to be unfolding is one of patience and thoughtfulness in terms of both how the Redskins can affordably achieve depth of talent pre-draft, while at the same time have money in reserve just in case a big free agency moves comes about post-draft that requires management to throw some money around to stay competitive, guilt free.

Considering the fact that Shanahan has indicated Jason Campbell isn’t going anywhere, I’d say Tebow’s visit is not a sign that they intend to draft him — simply that they are leaving no stone unturned while under the first year of new leadership.  After all, Tebow isn’t necessarily going to find himself an NFL star, especially first year out of the gate. I bet Shanny and Allen just want to see the magic up close and personal, and they have a budget to use up to do just that.

I think drafting Tebow would be a huge mistake. He has the potential to be a “GOOD” quarterback, but behind a veteran. Why would the Redskins draft Tebow when they’re QB right now isn’t even developed? Draft a number 2 receiver. Oh and where were you yesterday? You were slacking on the gab. I’ve been gabbing away.
