No So Welcome Back

Redskins Camp Football

DeAngelo Hall. His name is synonymous with the terms hit-or-miss, feast-or-famine. At times his volatility leads to ridiculous penalties but in other instances his intensity (when harnessed) spawns great football.  The 2009 season pits DeAngelo against three ghosts of his NFL past.

Carolina Panthers: Week 3 of the 2007 Season D.Hall and Carolina receiver Steve Smith got into a war of words in the days leading up to the game.  The first half belonged completely to D.Hall but the second half was a different story.  Smith seemed to get under Hall’s skin, and pushed him to the point of self-destruction.  Hall was called for three penalties all of which were committed against Smith that cost the defense 67 yards.  Week 5 of the upcoming season Hall will encounter Smith again for the first time since 2007.  Bad blood doesn’t go away.  Hall has said he is much more mature now than from his days as an Atlanta Falcon.  For the sake of the Redskins defensive backfield, let’s hope it’s true.

Atlanta Falcons: When DeAngelo was in Oakland his former team absolutely put the proverbial flame to his butt and scorched him. Hall gets a shot at redemption Week 9 when the ‘Skins head to Halls former home field, the Falcons nest. Composure is key, DeAngelo. Don’t let the same fans that used to cheer you on heckle you into a whirlwind. [Early prediction: this will be D. Halls game, expect him to shut down who ever he is covering and to create turnovers.] DeAngelo is already lobbying for coaches to allow him to return punts or in one way or another get his hands on the football during this game.

Oakland Raiders: Oh baby! Week 14 in Oakland [with yours truly  in attendance] in front of Al Davis, going against Jamarcus Russell,  showing Nnamdi Asomugha, and Carlos Rogers who the best corner in the stadium is, DeAngelo Hall will face the Raider nation. While in Oakland last year, Hall disappointed and definitely didn’t live up to his 7 year, $70 million contract. Raiders fans won’t forget and neither will D.Hall. This is another game in which emotions can flare.
